SECRET #7:
Look Like a Wife if You Want to
Attract a Husband
ALTHOUGH WOMEN OFTEN MAKE ALLOWANCES FOR A MAN’S style or appearance because she can see his ultimate potential, trophy men can afford to be much more selective. Unfortunately, the old double standard is alive and well. Men very rarely settle for women they don’t find physically attractive. It seems shallow, and I know you’ve seen downright ugly men who, because of their success and status, have hoards of women running after them, but there’s hardly any point to getting worked up over something that isn’t going to change. Success, like power and influence, is like an aphrodisiac.
Morgan, a dentist’s wife, beautifully summed it up. “There’s no sense in women acting indignant about men judging them by their looks. It’s unfair, but it is reality. When he first meets you, he takes in as much as he can see of your face, your body, your hair, your hands, your feet, and the whole package. If he likes what he sees, he’ll move forward. If not, his impression in those first few seconds will sink you. But perhaps it’s better that way, instead of being led on.”
Fortunately, not all men share the exact same tastes, and what seems beautiful to one may be quite the opposite to another. Remember, some people like apples and others prefer oranges. There’s a man for every woman, and vice versa. If you’re not his type (meaning what a man personally prefers in facial characteristics, body shape, hair type, or skin color) then move on. You can’t win, and you certainly can’t argue your way into changing his mind.
It’s been said that aggressive women go after their men, and savvy women make the first move. The truth of the matter is that if a man isn’t attracted to you, it doesn’t matter what you say or do. It’s a losing proposition. And the same argument goes for men who prefer interracial dating. When trophy women are rejected, they take solace in knowing there is a man out there, a trophy man, who does consider them his type. If they suspect a man isn’t attracted to them, they cut their losses and move on. One woman explained, “There’s no point in yelling, ‘Who the hell does he think he is?’ If you’re not his type, you’re not his type. He doesn’t have to look for other reasons to like you, or learn to like you, any more than you have to accept something you don’t like.” The smart woman knows when and how to let go. Many used the same basic principle themselves, understanding that preferences can be a very particular thing. After all, they weren’t going to force themselves to accept men they weren’t completely attracted to.
Instead, the women recognized their best assets and took extra measures to keep themselves attractive. Loving yourself, and feeling good about yourself can be a healthy driving force in your life, and feeling good about yourself involves keeping yourself looking good.
